Alan R. Mecham

I am an ergonomic and 3d designer with an extensive background in visualizations for the energy industry. Starting in 2001 I have participated in project for U.S.DOE (Department of Energy), U.S.NRC (Nuclear Regulatory Commission), JNC (Japan Nuclear Cycle Development Institute), IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency), ESA (European Space Agency), NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration), Statoil, Eni, Dong Energy and others. I completed a masters degree in computer science fall of 2006 with a thesis written on utilizing intelligence and agent systems within 3d worlds. Over my career I have worked in both the US and Norwegian energy sectors for nuclear energy and oil & gas production. I have worked extensively with human factors and ergonomic design in visualizations for planing and training, HMI designs, end-user testing, and usability. I have HSE working environment analysis experience as well. My focuses has centered on the end-user and how to present information clearly; making interactions natural and intuitive; and better utilizing technology.

I have a deep love for learning and see visualizations and 3d CGI as a medium for presenting information rich environments to provide deeper understanding about a topic. Examples of personal and professional 3d projects can be found here on my website, or in my show reel (a local view and download will be up soon). Through my career l have used 3ds Max, zBrush, Photoshop, as well as several program suites for designing visual element and scripting languages including Java, OpenGL, JavaScript, Python, Perl, HTML, PhP, CSS, VRML, and XML for creating applications and interfaces. I understand SQL and have written web interfaces for databases using HTML, SSL, CSS, PhP and JavaScript as well. Because every project is different adaptability is very important, I believe my past experiences allow me to be able to pick up any missing skills quickly.
